New Hagstrom Guitar Models: Adina and Megin
GuitarsIt’s not every day you see new guitar models from Swedish Hagstrom Guitars (makers of the famous Super Swede and of course the Fantomen which the ghouls of Ghost rocks out on as their signature guitar) but they’re going to present the double-cut Megin and the offset Adina at the Guitar Summit 2024 in Mannheim, Germany (September 27-29). Rumor has it they’re going to present a 4- and 5-string bass version of the Fantomen as well, dubbed Nekromant. More about that later perhaps…
Hagstrom Megin
I absolutely love the shape of this, and as a side-note Megin apparently translates to “Magic” in Old Norse. It comes in four finishes: Grey Burst, Aged Sky Blue, Black Gloss and Creme and features mahogany set necks, two Hagstrom Custom 62 humbuckers, a wrap-around bridge and a 25.5″ scale length. Looks amazing!

Hagstrom Adina
The offset / double cutaway Adina will come in four finishes as well: Blue Sky, Dark Storm, Purple Burst and Creme. These features a flame maple top with mahogany body, Canadian maple bolt-on neck, 25.5″ scale and pickup-wise you get the Hagstrom P50 in the neck and the coil-splittable Hagstrom Custom 60 humbucker in the bridge position. The Adina comes with a wrap-around bridge as well, just as the Megin.

Resonator Wood and H-Expander truss rods
Now, these two models, just as other Hagstrom guitars, come with Resonator Wood fingerboards and it’s pretty interesting. Every Hagstrom I’ve tried I’ve really liked the feel of it but it might be different to others, basically it’s a wood composite material that they say can be produced to be more uniform in density and more stable than regular woods:
These characteristics eliminate dead spots or “wolf tones” sometimes associated with conventional wood fingerboards. Resinator™ wood has an articulate sound similar to high quality ebony, but without any of the problems associated with ebony. It provides a stable and clear tone, and also adds higher overtones and harmonics which uniquely detail each note.
Now, combine this with their own massive H-Expander truss rod you get a really reliable and consistent instrument, something Hagstrom claims is a major contribution to the “Hagstrom Tone”.
Anyway, super glad to see they’re updating their catalog with new models, I’ve always been a fan of their designs.
